Healthcare wishes have come and quickly to Bukomolo and the surrounding villages in Kibuku District, Eastern Uganda. Construction of a health facility is now near completion, set to open early 2017.
This project is being made possible by concerted efforts of Grace Works Initiative (GWI), Bukomolo Christian Fellowship and Friends, to bring healthcare services closer to the people who suffer walking long distances to seek treatment. People in this village walk at least 10 miles to the nearest health centre from their homes. Women and children suffer most.
We launched Bukomolo Clinic at the end of year 2014, we have managed to mobilize close to shs. 200 million and we are grateful to our donors for standing to make this project happen.
Bukomolo community through Bukomolo Christian Fellowship donated one acre of land where the health facility is being built.
Our aim is that people have access to treatment and other health care benefits like nutrition and food security, HIV/AIDS and malaria awareness, water and sanitation among others. In 2015, Kakira Sugar Works supported 49 families with a donation of sugar to facilitate on our nutrition program. Coca cola also supported the HIV program where they donated Christmas gifts.
At the facility, we have designed a unique program of maternal health for mothers to utilize antenatal and postnatal care with the aim to drive down infant and maternal mortality which is so prevalent in this community.
Other programs that we have done include menstrual hygiene management where we have supported over 500 girls and women of reproductive age with menstrual kits.
