“What do you see?” Do you know that this was the first conversation of God to Jeremiah?
When driving Joy from Bukomolo back to Entebbe Airport, she asked about the urgent needs. To me, everything seemed urgent. I kept quiet for a while but she continued to ask “what do you see” Could a new generator be the priority?”
Well, the previous evening Joy’s phone battery was running low. Mine went off completely yet it was the only hope for her to tap WIFI to let the people back in the USA know she was well. It was also important to follow the presidential elections in her country. The bushes & small pathways leading to people homes were completely dark with only close solar lighting in her room.
I couldn’t sleep thinking about this beautiful soul that had left all her comfort country to come to such dark places in rural Uganda. I was much worried still that we were set to travel early morning on a very long journey yet our phones were off.
In the car, Lawrence our driver (clinic administrator) invented an idea of an inventor & extension cable & we seemed like in a studio but it worked perfect, got our phones on & much more connected with Julius on our way.
Well, this short story reflects the life we face daily doing activities in such hard-to-reach rural communities. The communities with no electricity & limited access to safe clean water. We are glad that Joy recognized & interpreted the need to get us a new generator to help in lighting, charging & pumping water just as prophet Jeremiah paid attention to realities around him.
GWI’S long-term plan is to connect electricity inside the clinic to improve services especially in the maternity for refrigeration purposes i.e vaccines and medicines for mothers delivering their babies & vaccinating them. Electricity will also enable the clinic to improve services in the laboratory and as well upgrade.
Joy is the president of Operation Beautiful Feet who visited GWI activities in Bukomolo community/village last week.
