Saving Grace
Grace Nakajje, what a strong yet humble name
An International Award winner was in the frame
When we befriended online I wanted to learn who she was
Health, education and farming was the buzz
In Uganda of all places is where all this is taking place
Grace Works Initiative was the mission everyone embraced
The little children experience Grace each day: you should see their face
From farming and goats to an education-sponsored children’s program
To an impressive health care facility, they’re set to pass the exam
Grace and I had met long ago and led different lives continents apart
But we’ve connected recently online and talk ‘til one has to depart
Grace exemplifies all the qualities of a teacher, a nurse and a leader
My hope is that we continue our friendship because she is a keeper
She has not been married; she is family centered and keeps them near
But the nurse in her comes out, the caring for others; it’s all too clear
She’s too busy to have children of her own
Instead God gives her His children to keep, teach and hone
So as I come to an end of this story of Grace and how she builds lives
I can see her walking by the children, parents, and friends, giving high fives
