Many women especially in rural areas face significant barriers to economic opportunities. Thus, GWI in partnership with Operation Beautiful Feet, USA, are aiding women in Bukomolo village to build skills that will be self sufficient to personal empowerment, economic stability and community development.
While visiting these women on Tuesday, Joy Griffin, the President of Operation Beautiful feet said that, donating sewing machines allows women to turn their skills into sustainable income because it is more than stitching fabrics but rather stitching a future, independence and resilience.
GWI CEO Grace Nakajje said that, to start this project is because sewing is a craft that can be learned and developed with practice and it can be done from home allowing women to work while attending to their families.
GWI aims to continue to expand this program into a vocation institute that will lay the ground work for a stronger community to break the cycle of poverty and as well an opportunity to present a legacy of self reliance, creativity and contribution that will last for generation.
