Menstrual management is a critical aspect of public health and gender equality for adolescent girls in rural communities such as Bukomolo in Eastern Uganda.
Because of limited access to hygiene products, stigma and miss information, these girls face challenges to manage their menstrual health.
GWI in partnership with Operation Beautiful Feet are combining efforts to address menstrual management for these rural girls with the aim to promote education opportunities, improved health and sense of dignity.
The president Operation Beautiful Feet Joy Griffin visited these girls last week and about 100 girls received sanitary napkins.
GWI CEO, Grace Nakajje says that, many families in the community prioritize other basic needs leaving girls to resort to other unhygienic alternatives which increase the risk to infection at the same time exposing them to look for handouts from boys or men leading them to early pregnancies, STIs and dropping out of school.
