Jjaja Kate with GWI Chief

In the photo is 83 year old Jaja Kate being helped by GWI CEO Grace Nakajje, during harvest of groundnuts in the clinic demonstration garden in Bukomolo village recently.

Kate has six grandchildren under her care after her son died from HIV/AIDS last year. Two of the grandchildren are also infected. The living condition in her house is poor. Working in the garden helps feed her family.

Grace Works Initiative started a livelihood program in Bukomolo village to supports households such as Kate. We mobilize households and support them with farm inputs such as improved seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and we train them on better farming methods.

The goal is for households to have the ability to secure year around food and also get income from their own production.
