International Women’s Day in Bukomolo

Today the C.E.O Grace Nakajje spent time with some women at the clinic talking about the importance of International Women’s Day

Whenever it comes to 8th March of every year, the whole World switches to women. In Uganda, it’s a day to hear voice of women on radio stations, to watch women on television and to read about women in news papers who are making difference in the country. It is also a day for married men to stay home with their married wives!!

In Bukomolo however, few women honor it. Majority claim it is a cruel day because it’s the day their husbands intensely put domestic demands and failure to fulfill them results to domestic violence.

Women do a lot including seeking health care for their children

Men think the intention behind the International Women’s Day is to make women rebellious and abuse their culture.

But at GWI, we believe they are missing a point. Today the C.E.O Grace Nakajje spent time with some women at the clinic talking about the importance of International Women’s Day. She told them it is a day to acknowledge women’s contributions to their families and communities.

She pointed out that women do a lot such as making husbands comfortable in the house, nurturing of children right from the womb all through to maturity – teaching them to feed, to speak, to dress, to bath, to behave well, and to know God among others.

Traditional culture is still raw in Bukomolo and surrounding villages. However, these communities need to be helped. Join us with your ideas.
