Momentum! Catch the ‘big mo’ & apply in your Diabetes control & Overall Health

Exercise to offset the effects of sugar and carbs in your body. Walk several times a day and get a ‘step’ counter or Fitbit to assist you in your efforts

One thing we haven’t talked about is momentum in your diabetic journey (or, your health journey in general). Momentum is defined in the dictionary as primarily a subject of physics, the quantity of motion of a moving body, measured as a product of its mass and velocity. Another definition is the impetus gained by a moving object. One thing is for sure: You either have positive momentum or negative.

The bible uses synonyms for momentum like victory, strength and faith. You are going from victory to victory, strength through strength you move forward have faith that you will succeed and move forward.

For example, in sports you see momentum ‘shifts’ in baseball teams, soccer, or football, and more. One team gets a lead in scoring early in the game only to have the other team comeback and sometimes, win, re-gaining the momentum.

Momentum is certainly subjective but you know if you have it or not in your life.

Having momentum in your diabetes control is also important. You can’t afford to have the momentum ‘shifts’ as described above. You must maintain an aggressive and smart attitude in managing and controlling your diabetes or overall health (weight control, not overeating, etc.).

It is up to you to do things like:

  1. Test yourself with a diabetes test kit- blood sample check from pricking your finger so that you know your numbers (like in a ball game or sport as mentioned above).
  2. Exercise to offset the effects of sugar and carbs in your body. Walk several times a day and get a ‘step’ counter or Fitbit to assist you in your efforts.
  3. Diet- eat smart, buy healthy foods and learn to read food labels and/or know your nutrition facts: vitamins and minerals, fats, trans fats, sugar, carbs, fiber, other contents, that are good for you.
  4. Medicine- take the appropriate medicine and consult a physician to suggest the correct doses
